If that situation occurs, you need to react quickly:
- Try to be as safe as possible
- Avoid putting yourself in danger - even if you have experience with separating dogs
- Try to get witnesses and the contacts of the attacking dog(s) owner(s). Again, do not put yourself in danger
- The priority is you and the dog under your care
- As soon as you can, check the dog for injuries (be careful as pain might cause aggressive behaviour)
- Take the dog to the vet if necessary
- File a complaint with local animal control officers
- Contact your client to give an update about the dog's well-being.
- Keep all invoices from the vet and give them to your client.
